Making it possible to lie down at work
Our semi-supine efficiency at work campaign
Everyone who wrote to me about the video I posted found it helpful. The only exceptions were a couple of people who were not able to view it on their computer. (Apologies if I haven’t been able to write back to you yet. I will, I promise.)
There was, however, one really big problem that many of you expressed: ”There’s no way I could lie down at my office“.
This is very true and it’s why, when I wrote my original article about sitting at a computer without pain, I followed it up with another article addressed to your office manager
I’m well aware that even the above articles are not going to be enough to make the necessary difference to your work environment. That is why I’m working at making this video series viral. The more people are inspired to take bold and unusual action to make lying down possible in their office, the more acceptable it will, very gradually become.
For this to happen we also need that those people who take such action document let me know so that I can document it for the world to see. If you happen to be one of the really brave people who are up for this, the best and easiest way to document your action would be to get a colleague to video you lying down at the office with your mobile phone.
Also, if you have other possible ideas to share, please let me know, even though you yourself are not volunteering to carry them through. The more ideas we have the better.
This campaign is probably going to take a while to get off the ground. Still, as more and more people get on board, it can and will happen, I’ll make sure of that. Eventually, we can make it so that not allowing workers to lie down at the office gets officially frowned upon. As companies realise that it’s in their best interest to encourage you to lie down at work, more and more will follow suit.
But first, lets come back to where we are at the moment. The first thing we need is for just one daring person to take the initiative and video themselves lying down at work. (Don’t worry, this doesn’t have to be you). Then another person, then another…
It’ll be a little easier for each successive person. As the movement grows, it ill become easier for some forward looking manager to step out of line and take an initiative in his or her office. Then another manager, then another…
When it gets to that stage, it’ll be time to add a little PR as well.
Do you see how it all works? We just need to keep plugging away at it. Above all, we (all of us) need to keep telling people about what’s going on. We need to tell people both on and off the web. Whenever you can, send people to the video(s) at http://SmilingBackMethod.com/easy
Personal Coaching by Philip Pawley
If you want to get the best kind of help, come to me for an introductory lesson in Liverpool.
If you’re too far away, then the next best thing is to get personal lessons and advice from me online at Repoise.com, my on-line school. (Both far-away and local pupils use Repoise).
In more detail:–
If you’re in Liverpool (or can get to Liverpool)
- There’s nothing better than individual lessons. My practice is at 37 Hope Street, Liverpool L1. Ring me on 0151 708 6172 to book an initial consultation and first lesson. (Leave your number so I can get back to you).
-
If you’re short of funds, you can still have first class training from me — though it will require a little more work on your part.
The thing to do is have an individual, in-person lesson just once a month. That will entitle you to also get regular on-line lessons from me through Repoise. That way, you have the best of both worlds: in-person lessons and very regular, even daily, on-line Personal Coaching by Philip Pawley from me. That’s a real bargain because Repoise costs the equivalent of three lessons a year to everyone else.
Ring me on 0151 708 6172 if you want to arrange this.
- I occasionally run group lessons. If you’re interested in these, go here for details.
If you’re further away and can’t get to Liverpool
- There’s still nothing better than individual lessons. Here’s where you can find a teacher near you in the UK or elsewhere
- I suggest you also get direct day-to-day guidance from me by joining Repoise.
If you’re having plain Alexander Technique lessons from someone else, you still need to discover the Smiling Back Method of the Alexander Technique. You’ll get a lot more out of your lessons when you do.
