Video series: How to prevent back pain at work

1. Introducing the Constructive Rest Position

This is the first of a series of videos to teach you how to lie down in the Constructive Rest Position. It’s vital that you be able to lie down at work — and any other place where you have to sit for long periods of time. Of course, it’s often difficult or impossible to lie down at work — even though you only need to lie down for a few seconds.

Yet, it’s a fact that normal tiredness in your back creates pain, loss of attention and loss of productivity. It’s also a fact that most people don’t know this. So, unsurprisingly, your workplace managers probably don’t understand it either. Starting with these videos, we’re going to change all that.

Your next step

Now that you’ve watched the video, your next step is to download my free e-book: “The Hows & Whys of Semi-Supine”

How can you help?

In two ways:—

  1. Tell everyone you know about these videos and the e-book. Also post a link anywhere on the web that you do post. (please don’t spam anyone, of course).
  2. Add your own ideas in the comments below. What can we do to make this campaign even more effective?

Help and together we’ll ensure back-pain at work becomes history.

Not everyone’s work environment allows them to lie down — even for a moment or two. What can they do to help their back?

There’s a lot that can be done but it requires more effort than this simple thing. Here are some other excellent ideas.

I recognise that doing the lying down at work is not possible for a lot of people at the moment.

There are a few things we can do to change that:—

      1. Really examine the reasons why you can’t do it and look for ways around that. Donna, if you want to tell me exactly what the situation is at your place of work, email me and I’ll help.

      2. Tell your boss what he/she is missing by not making it possible. Show them the video. Also, show them this article.

      3. Here’s the big challenge and I’ll need all the help I can get to achieve it. Those who do succeed in lying down at work, tell us how you managed it. Get someone to take a video of you lying down at work and send it in. Once people begin to see it is possible, fellow workers will become more daring about doing it. Adventurous managers will begin to stick their necks out too.

Eventually we can get to a situation where not allowing workers to lie down at work is frowned on as stick-in-the-mud and bad for the company’s bottom line as well.
